Founded in 2025, Anachronism is a collection of handmade, one-of-one garments that exist as ephemeral, evolving expressions of femininity, fragility, memory, and transformation. What began as an exploratory knitwear project quickly progressed into custom design studio by visual artist Grace Quackenbush.

Anachronism is inspired by the continuous, tactile, rhythmic process of textile creation and its inherited connection to the deliberate crafting of narratives and identity. The designers practice is grounded in the fluid yet uncooperative nature of her materials and heavily influenced by a profound nostalgia and sense of temporal dislocation. Anachronism draws from the language of time and antiquity without belonging to it. It is less a revival of the past than a haunting — of forms, of gestures, of process, and of expression itself. The result is a body of work that feels at once tender and unsettled: a meditation on womanhood, transience, and the slow, inevitable mechanics of decay. Anachronism is a collection of singular garments suspended between past and present and explores time as both material and muse.

Each piece is meticulously crafted by hand, knit, crocheted, or stitched together as an unrepeatable object that preserves the evidence of process. The garments are ethereal and feminine yet undone: soft, airy, and deliberately imperfect. They are designed not as static objects, but as living works that shift and soften with wear. The garments evolve, accumulating trace, memory and quiet distortion, allowing both time and wearer to collaborate in their final form. Flaws are not corrected but composed; fragility is not concealed but embraced.

Working between painting and garment, the artist approaches clothing as both surface and form and as an extension of her broader visual practice, treating clothing as both sculpture and second skin. Her work is informed by an enduring fixation on the female body, not as an ideal, but as a site of vulnerability, memory, and transformation. The body exists as an integral element at the forefront of each design. Drawn to what is fleeting, worn, and emotionally resonant, she creates pieces that feel both intimate and untethered to any one place or moment.
